What is Aikido?Home

Aikido is a traditional Japanese Martial Way that uses the principles of non-resistance and non-duality as a way to self-defence without having recourse to gratuitous violence. On a physical level, Aikido employs throwing and joint locking techniques that are derived from Ju-Jitsu. The application of these techniques, in the training environment, is however quite different from Ju-Jitsu. Aikido techniques are practised in a constructive and non-competitive way, with the students aiming to work with each other to achieve a common goal, rather than fighting to win medals or titles.
